Certified as a ‘Category C’ vessel Kailani is understood to be the only
hotel boat certified to navigate the tidal section of the River Thames. This follows the completion
of modifications required by the Port of London Authority (PLA).
Kailani achieved the prestigious Lionel Munk Trophy for the best commercially built boat in 2013
which was awarded at the annual Inland Waterways Association Festival.
As the vessel carries less than 12 people it falls under the MCA ‘Small Passenger Boat Code’ and there is no requirement for any qualifications to skipper the boat other than when cruising. The London Ring (see below*). However insurers may require, and it would be sensible to have, an Inland Waterways ‘Helmsman Certificate’ which is a 1 day hands on course.
