The “Risby” is soaked with history from its original days travelling between the Trent and Humber canals and waterways as a wide beam vessel bringing essential supplies to and from the area.
Its current owners bought her as a restoration project 5 years ago after being inspired by the successful conversion of another wide beam barge for one of their many clients. This labour of love really has seen the rule book for houseboat design well and truly thrown away and breaks from convention to create what really is an outstanding 4 bedroom home in every sense.
The interior is magnificent with a light and spacious feel to every aspect and each room has been individually considered on its own merits and function. Ceiling and floor heights have been varied throughout to create interest and zoning of the spaces whilst seamlessly taking you on a journey throughout the accommodation. Careful attention has been given by offering the higher ceilings to the living room and master bedroom thus implying prominence and delivering a superior impact.
The changes in floor levels intentionally break up the living room to dining/kitchen area and transitions you through these spaces, this is enhanced further with the dropped ceiling rafts of various depths delineating the tops deck’s 3 main spaces.
Externally there is an invaluable roof top terrace with balustrading and imitation grass for those lazy summer days or social gathering and this, coupled with a raised decking/love seat at the rear on the main deck offers a fantastically cosy area. There are two really useful storage areas within the hull that are accessed from the outside deck which would easily accommodate bikes and garden furniture.

The Risby boasts a large open plan top living deck (641 sq. ft.) with a huge living room, kitchen & dining room. Contemporary grey high gloss kitchen units house the integrated oven, microwave, plate warmer, dish washer, gas hob with extract canopy and fridge/freezer. There is the added benefit of a breakfast bar for less formal meal times. A handy utility room at the rear has space for a washer/dryer and a further and equally useful walk in cupboard is also located at the rear which would be ideal for shoes and coats, etc.
The lower sleeping deck (904 sq. ft.) accommodates four double bedrooms with the impressively spacious master bedroom enjoying an en-suite with both a full sized bath and generous walk in shower. The family bathroom is beautifully finished with traditional fittings including a freestanding clawfoot bath and separate large walk in shower. All bedrooms, bathrooms and halls are surprisingly light thanks to the well designed locations of the traditional portholes

Walls and window reveals are all designs to be perfectly plumb so not to restrict your flare for interior décor and whether you are wishing to hang blinds or curtains to the windows or scatter tables and dressers around, everything will sit against the walls like a traditional house.
The original hull has undergone extensive steel re-lining below the waterline and the new upper deck has been constructed from 8mm steel all having a substantial 50mm of spray on insulation.
The lower deck has a poured concrete reinforcement of the hull which is the finihsed floor for the sleeping areas.
The functionality of the Risby has had an equally well thought out design with the insulation being increased to a thickness of 50mm to ensure the warmth in winter and to reduce the effects of solar gain in the summer. The water supply is housed in 3 huge 1000 litre purpose made sealed plastic tanks which is automatically refilled once hooked up to your mooring and the central heating is taken care of by a super efficient LPG fired combi boiler and radiators.
The electrical system benefits from mains hook up with the added advantage of a 24 volt trickle charge battery invertor meaning you will always enjoy essential power and lighting whether on the move or during mains power cuts. Both the bathrooms are fitted with heavy duty macerators and there is a vast 1000 litre metal and fibreglass lined tank accommodating the waste water.
The engine is a powerful and extremely reliable 6 cylinder turbo diesel Gardener LX and navigated through a stainless steel feature control panel with the added benefit of CCTV cameras at the front and rear to assist those narrower waterways.
