The MPSV/ OSV/ AHTS vessel is a robust and versatile Multi-Purpose Support Vessel (MPSV) built in 1999 by Halter Marine. Originally designed to serve the offshore oil and gas industry, this vessel combines substantial cargo capacity, dynamic positioning, and modern subsea capabilities, making it an ideal asset for a wide range of offshore operations, including supply, towing, and subsea interventions.
With an overall length of 85.34 meters (280 feet), a beam of 19.82 meters (65 feet), and a maximum draft of 6.7 meters (21 feet - 11 inches), the vessel is designed for stability and efficiency, featuring a clear deck space of 42.67 meters by 16.76 meters (140 feet x 55 feet), providing a cargo deck area of 715.34 square meters (7,700 square feet). The deck can support a cargo capacity of 406.4 metric tons (400 long tons) at a 3-foot vertical center of gravity.
The vessel is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) under multiple notations, including DPS-2 for dynamic positioning, A1 Hull, AMS Machinery, and HELIDK for heli-deck operations. The vessel is compliant with SOLAS cargo ship requirements and MARPOL, ensuring adherence to international safety and pollution prevention standards. It also holds a Crane Register Certificate (CRC) and meets USCG Subchapter I and L for cargo and offshore supply vessels.
The cargo and fuel capacities are impressive, with the vessel able to carry 309,309 gallons (1,170 cubic meters) of fuel oil and 99,962 gallons (378.4 cubic meters) of potable water. The vessel is also equipped to store 7,438 barrels (1,182.5 cubic meters) of liquid mud. Additionally, 528,629 gallons (2,001 cubic meters) of ballast capacity, including a flume tank, enhances stability in rough seas.
Powered by four (4) EMD 16-710-G7B main engines, delivering a combined 16,000 BHP, the vessel is driven by two LIPS Z-Drives, each rated at 6,000 BHP, ensuring excellent maneuverability and propulsion. The vessel’s bow thruster, a HRP 500-60 with 800 HP, and a 1,500 HP drop-down thruster further enhance dynamic positioning and control during complex offshore operations. The ship cruises at a speed of 12 knots.
The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art deck and towing equipment, featuring two 25-ton deck cranes with a 40-foot extended range, and a towing system that includes two tow winches capable of handling wire lengths up to 11,800 feet (3,600 meters). For towing and anchor handling, the vessel has two 700 MT SWL shark jaws, two 300 MT tow pins, and three stern rollers with a capacity of 711 MT.
Subsea operations are supported by advanced equipment, including a Schilling Robotics 200 HP ROV rated for operations up to 4,000 meters, a MacGregor 150 MT knuckle boom crane with a single-line lift of 150 MT and an operational depth of 3,000 meters. The vessel also features a 15 MT Hawboldt A-frame for safe and efficient handling of subsea assets.
The accommodations on board are designed for up to 62 personnel. There are various cabin configurations, including 26 two-person cabins, two four-person cabins, and two single-person cabins, ensuring comfortable living quarters for crew and operational staff during extended missions.
For safety, the vessel is equipped with six 25-person inflatable life rafts and two 20-person life rafts, in addition to a rescue boat with davit for emergency situations.
Overall, the MPSV is a highly capable, ABS-classed vessel equipped with the necessary tools, systems, and accommodations to perform a variety of offshore roles in demanding environments. Its combination of dynamic positioning, cargo capacity, towing capability, and subsea equipment makes it ideal for long-term operations in the offshore oil and gas industry.
