Multicats are used for a variety of tasks in the offshore sector today. As a multifunctional all-purpose vessel, a multicat is equipped with powerful winches, one to two offshore cranes as well as a spacious flat deck.
In addition to the key tasks such as towing offshore construction vessels and setting and recovering anchors and navigable water buoys, multicats are also used for geotechnical investigations, surveys, ROV investigations, ammunition recovery and support for dredging. Multicats typically have very low draughts. Therefore they are ideally suited for near-shore and shallow-water operations and can, if need be, also get stranded on mud flats between the tides.
In order to permanently extend their extremely flexible range of operations, more and more multicats are being equipped with a dynamic positioning system to also enable them to maintain a good location in estuaries and ocean currents.
