Description

Three degrees of freedom on the MCG are actively compensated by the control system:

- Slewing
Drives attached to the Gangway Slewing Bearing generate slewing motion relative to the Cursor. Slewing drives in interaction with the slewing ring provide safe and efficient slewing motion of the gangway.

- Luffing
Four hydraulic cylinders attached between the King and the Bridge provide gangway luffing motion. Two of the cylinders, one on each side, are powered by pre-charged accumulators, and supporting the gangway self-weight. The two other cylinders are used to actively generate luffing motion and compensate for ship- and gangway accelerations, and gangway live loads.

- Telescoping
The Gangway Bridge consists of two main parts: the fixed- and the telescopic part. The telescopic part is driven by motor/drive unit through pinion and tooth rack interaction. Drives are hinged and guided over tooth rack to ensure precise distance and contact between pinion and tooth rack. This gives a connection with the minimum possible wear of pinion teeth. The telescopic part section is driven on the bogie wheels which are designed to withstand all operational loads from the gangway.

Permissible live load on gangway bridge: 300 kg (equivalent to two men carrying a person on a stretcher)
Sea conditions: Estimated Hs 3.0 m for typical 55 m SOV1.
Operational wind speed: 20 m/s, 3 seconds wind gusts
Survival wind speed: 44 m/s. Gangway stowed and secured.
Luffing motion
Hydraulic cylinders:
2 passive cylinders driven by pre-charged accumulators
2 active cylinders driven mainly by HPU
Equipped with load holding valves
Redundant control of hydraulic valve
Redundant control of HPU

Slewing motion
Hydraulic drive units with pinions on slewing bearing:
3 hydraulic motors with gearboxes and fail-safe brakes
Two motors allow for continued operation with reduced performance.

Buffer platform
Specification:
Size: Ø7.2 m with space for at least 4 EUR/US pallets
Max distributed load: 5 kN/m2
Max total live load: 4t
Max trolley weight (load capacity included): 1t
Mannual adjustment of handrails between buffer platform and tower to adjust for gangway slewing angle.

Minimum internal walkway width: 0.6 m

CCTV for crew traffic
2 CCTV cameras in total:
2 cameras for a collected view of the bumper

Traffic light
The gangway is equipped with a traffic light system.
Green light = safe for personnel to transfer
Red light = personnel transfer prohibited
