2012 56FT Raised pilothouse Powercat

Catamaran and Wave piercer designs have long been the choice for innovative people "looking for more" from their boats. More stability, more room, more speed and up to 40% more fuel economy. The evolution of the Power-catamaran has been rapid over the past 10 years, to a point where they are seen as the future new trend in motoryachts. This has already been seen by their take over in the commercial passenger ferry market. After building several Power Catamarans and Sailing Cats from 42-86ft, we see a great future in this area.

Our largest powercat build, Pacific Harmony (below) was created for us to charter the America's Cup in 2003 and motor to USA. Conceived as a long range global luxury cruiser with 3000 mile range at 8-10kts and over 1000 mile range at 20kts on a mere 3500 gallons of fuel, we motored her to Florida and sold her at the Ft Lauderdale boat show. She features 20-30% more room than monohulls of her length, 30-40% less fuel consumption and the bonus of extra stability than a monohull underway or at rest without the need for stabilisers. Being an 86 foot, long range, high speed cruiser with the volume of a 100 footer and then the economy of a 60 footer makes a very desirable efficient boat. She can be built again or visit our Powercat Multihull section for 46ft and 56ft models in development.

Layout:

A WELL FOUNDED LAYOUT

The moulded stairs from the cockpit to the flybridge make access from the cockpit safe and easy in large seas. The large boat deck has room for an explorer tender up to 15ft and a sailing tender or jet ski.

The elevated Helm and dining area can be fully enclosed, hardtop with glass windscreen and side clears, hardtop open or fully open. Once again swing back helm seat backrests save space as the helm seat can be used at anchor for dining. Good views down the starboard side deck for the helmsman for coming alongside is provided. A large sofa for easy lounging with the option of a coffee table for drinks and nibbles. The BBQ is sited at the rear of the flybridge with space for a bar fridge under and easily access from the galley via the internal stairs..
The stern has good access from the dock either side and to the water. Steps to the centre landing save upper cockpit space and make a good area to fish from. An extended fishing/tender platform- fixed or hydraulic submersible platform can be added for extra space aft to carry a tender or mount a fishing chair.

The cockpit has a sunbathing sofa that provides headroom to the steps from the Port swim platform to the Lazarrette and laundry. Also sited to pick up any cooling breeze coming down the side deck. The sheltered dining area is out of the sun, wind and rain making a very usable place to relax and watch the views out to sea. Moulded stairs to the flybridge make the external access safe and easy. Plenty of storage under the deck for fenders and ropes, dive gear etc.

The salon features a generous sized lounge for entertaining away from the cooking and dining area. Stairs to each hull and full height engine room make access to these areas comfortable.

The pilothouse features a large dinette, galley and helm area. The pilothouse galley allows meal preparation on passage safer with good views of the conditions ahead, vital when cooking underway. Also well sited for easy snack preparation on long passages for the watch captain so single handed stretches are easy to manage.

The helm seat has a swing over backrest to allow use at the dinette, saving space. The dining table has a drop leaf down 1/3rd so access past to side decks is clear when the full table is not needed. Doors either side of the pilothouse make access to side decks easy which feature fiberglass bulwarks for safety when the the deck is moving. A sunpad on the foredeck and seat for enjoying the outdoors along with a large compartment for kayaks or a small tender and large hatches for good ventilation breeze to the cabins below. Windlass's in moulded dirt traps are sited over the hull for good freefall of chain eliminating the need to flake the chain at every anchorage, making internal anchoring possible. Stairs from the galley to the flybridge make food transfer to the upper area easy and convenient.
Convenient access from the swim platform to the Port Lazarette where wet swim/snorkel gear is neatly stowed for drying in the swim/rinsing shower-over-tub. The laundry, watermaker and other service items live in this area.

Access to the Starboard lazarette is via the cockpit hatch and stairs. This area is the workshop/generator/electrical supply room which is primarily accessed via the engine room which has internal walk in full headroom access from the stairwells off the salon. Both engine rooms have full headroom for easy maintenance and full walk around access due to the wide body hull form.

Guest cabins can be configured in many ways. The berths running over the hull tunnel allow for island berth easy bed making access on the main Queen guest and an office come twin guest cabin to port. The desk can be covered with the mattress for an extra berth. Both hulls have ensuite access for guests.

The master cabin is full beam of the boat with a private sofa nap area which covers the raised tunnel area. The head is enclosed and wash area/make up area open for a more spacious feel when dressing. The Port hull has the shower which is sited over a full bath for a luxurious soak when water supply is plentiful. The forward end of the port hull can be a walk in wardrobe or a desk/laptop station.
