Highly Recommended Harbor Tug, Ice Class Rated
This an all steel, double hull at bow & stern, commercial tugboat, rated for ice breaking and fire fighting and documented for Coastwise Trade and Recreation as a US Flag vessel. Documented Vessel Dimensions are 32.2 feet in length, 11.2 feet in breath, and 6 feet in depth [actual builder’s specs:34'x12'x6']. The USCG Gross Weight [a volume not weight measure] is 14 gross tons; actual dry weight [without fuel & water] when built was 20 gross tons but now may be well over 21.5 tons. With fuel & water, we estimate the vessel’s actual working/cruising weight to be 24 gross tons.
The tug, built in 1947 by the now defunct John Manly Shipyard [New Westminster, B.C.], currently is in exceptional condition, since the vessel was operated only in fresh water until 2004. The Tug is driven by a single diesel Caterpillar 220HP engine [Model 3306 T] rated for continuous duty, and a beefy Twin Disc 509 gear, 3:1 ratio, all completely overhauled over the 98 Winter period [current hours 4,700]. The Bronze prop is 3 feet in diameter with a 28" pitch. She has a ...completely separate..., spacious Engine Room, 3 sleeping bunks, a very complete galley, a new electric head, and completely new plumbing and wiring, all professionally done. Approximate cruising and top speeds are 7.0 knots and 9.1 knots, respectively. A very special plus is that she is quite economical to operate at 2.7 GPH at cruising speed [without a tow].
Major Refit & Upgrade - 2005
During Winter berthing 2005, the vessel was professionally refit, upgraded and modernized for the 2005 passenger season. Examples of refit work, all in accordance with USCG CFR 46 specifications, include:
& #9679; New electronics [e.g., VHF Radio, 3-Beam Sounder, GPS/Electronic Compass]
& #9679; New Hailer [with auto Fog Signals] & Passenger Announcement Systems
& #9679; New Upper Deck Added with Ferry Seating, Stairs, et al
& #9679; New Safety Rails around Main Deck plus New Safety Rails around new Upper Deck
& #9679; New Electric Head System ... including all plumbing, tanks, Y valves, etc.
& #9679; New Galley Pressurized Fresh Water System ... including all plumbing, tanks, Y valves, etc.
& #9679; New Galley Dickerson Stove with new exhaust, fueling with new day tank, and electrical systems
& #9679; New DC Electrical Systems, e.g., new 8D House Bank, Isolator, circuit breaker systems, new heavy duty/commercial grade engine room panel, new engine sensors, etc.
& #9679; New Bunks [sleeps 3] and New Cushions throughout
& #9679; New Custom Helm Chair
& #9679; Other new enhancements too numerous to cite [e.g., roller fairing, wave shrouds, etc.]
Other major upgrades
& #9679; Hull re-plating [complete] 1998 (1" plating over entire hull, then “doubled “ at bow plus stern).
& #9679; Engine and Twin Disc Gear completely overhauled 1998 [low current hours - 4,700]
& #9679; New Wagner Hydraulics, New Steering Rams & New Morse Controls 2001
& #9679; New Shaft & Cutlass Bearing 2002
& #9679; New Twin Secondary/tertiary Fuel Filter System added 2004
& #9679; Upgraded RPM mechanical sensor to electronic 2004
& #9679; New 2"x1" Bar Steel Propeller Cage 2002
& #9679; New Radar [JRC 1000 with closed dome] 2002
& #9679; New Motorola Cell Phone 2002
& #9679; New AM/FM Radio/CD Player Sound System 2002
& #9679; Hull sand-blasted & re-coated [2 primer-3 coal tar] 2003; 3 primer-4 epoxy cop 2004/5; 2 primer & 2 epoxy cop 2005/6; two Duraplate 235 [2-part epoxy] 2005/6 on hull above water line.
The documentation which comes with this vessel also is unusually complete. As examples, the complete Engine Service Manual and, separately, the complete Parts Manual, will be provided on microfiche [along with a microfiche reader]. Additionally, the written Manual for the Twin Disc Gear, along with the original shipyard builder’s drawings [2] will transfer, to cite just a few examples.
