| | Construction |
| |
The RAmparts Class tugs are twin Z-drive, diesel-powered tugs designed for maximum effi- ciency in the performance of ship-handling duties. The hull form and layout have evolved over several years through the extensive experience of the designers, Robert Allan Ltd., working with their Clients and their crews in developing tugs for this challenging service.
The RAmparts Class tugs are of robust, all-welded steel construction, with scantlings in excess of the minimums of any Classification Society.
Although the basic designs are intended as dedicated ship-assist tugs, working off a forward winch, design options can be readily included to outfit the tugs for any of the following services:
• Tanker escort service • Fire-fighting
• Aft towing
The design is based on an intended low-manning operation, with a high standard of machinery automation, but the accommodations can be adjusted to match almost any reasonable require- ment, although the layouts have been developed to match the most commonly acceptable man- ning standards..
